WILLIAM KARPEN

Capturing the beauty and diversity of the queer community through photographs.

Projects

01.

Queer Presence

Queer folks are kaleidoscopes of color, each one a one-off, never seen before. Within each identity of sexuality and gender, there are a million variations, and combinations and recombinations of overlapping experiences and identities. And within each, a deep humanity. In this photography project, my aim is to bring those images to the community as a reflection of its own multiplicity.

02.

The Holly Terror Project

The Holly Terror Project revolves around a drag character I created in the ’90s. Holly is clad in aqua blue from the pageboy wig atop her head all the way down to her army boots. She draws inspiration from influences ranging from Andy Warhol’s Factory scene and the punk rock Riot Grrrls of the ‘90s to the broader queer culture.

The Story Behind the Lens

William Karpen is dedicated to visually showcasing the diverse narratives within the queer community.
